Infectious diseases of the CNS most often do not require surgical intervention. The exceptions are infections that have arisen in the area of traumatic injury or surgical intervention, osteomyelitis of the bones of the skull or spine, intracranial and spinal abscesses, empyema and some rare types of pathology.
