GLOSSARY

Abortion (Lat. abortus - miscarriage) is, in fact, any premature termination of pregnancy at a period of up to 22 weeks of gestation. It is classified into natural, spontaneous and artificial, i.e. which is deliberately carried out by a specialist.

Abstracting (Lat. abstrahere - to distract) is mental highlighting of some signs of an object and phenomenon. Abstraction is the first step towards the formation of concepts. In the process of abstraction, the selection and processing of information is carried out in order to replace the direct empirical image with another, not directly given, but mental as an abstract object, usually called the same term "abstraction".

Adaptation (Lat. adaptation - attunement) - the process of modifying self-organizing systems to match the changing conditions of the living environment. In bioethics, this term is applied to all biological systems reflecting the expedient response of a complex hierarchical self-organizing system to changing living conditions.

Affect (Lat. affectus - emotional excitement, passion) - a relatively short-term, but strongly and violently flowing emotional transformation of a person, for example, fear, horror, despair, rage, etc.

Agony (Greek agonia - struggle) is the final stage of the dying process. This is the state of the body prior to death.

Alcoholism is a disease caused by systemic consumption of alcoholic beverages, resulting in severe mental and physical disorders.

Altruism (Fr. altruisme, Lat. alter - other) is the moral principle of self-sacrificing and voluntary service to other people, a conscious desire to selflessly help them. It is a characteristic of feelings, thoughts and actions devoid of egoism, which prescribes a person to suppress own selfishness, sincerely serve the "neighbour" and always be ready to sacrifice own interests in favor of the interests of other people or society as a whole.
