This edition is prepared with due consideration of suggestions and remarks made by experts. In particular, due to many cases of late detection of infectious diseases in the prehospital phase, low quality of the provided assistance, improper identification of indications for hospital admission, these aspects of infectious disease pathology have received more attention. As a syndrome-based approach to the diagnosis of infectious diseases is highly important, this edition includes a more detailed description of the most demonstrative syndromes and damages caused by infectious diseases. Infectious disease is the most fast-changing section of the human pathology. Such diseases as West Nile fever, listeriosis, ixodic tick-borne borrelioses, ehrlichioses, viral diarrheas, and opportunistic infections are acquiring higher significance. Due to the current globalization process the role of imported infections becomes more important, disappearing infections are coming back, and diagnostic methods are being improved. Due to the growing resistance of causative organisms to antimicrobial drugs, the treatment regimens and standards have been changing, some new medicinal products appear, preventive treatment methods have been improved, new vaccines are being registered, and the national immunization schedule being changed. Taking this into consideration, the curriculum of the clinical subject «Infectious Diseases», the structure and the scope of the course content require adjustment, and therefore a new edition of the manual has been published.
