Verb conjugation. Infinitive. Imperative mood

While studying this topic, you will:

• get acquainted with the Latin verb;
• learn how to form and apply verb forms in recipes and Rx lines;
• learn how to use a verb in receipts and pharmaceutical terminology.

The lesson is divided into several sections:

• 4^th conjugations and the basis of the verb;
• formation of the Imperative Mood in singular and plural forms.

NB! The basis of the verb is practically defined from the infinitive form by the separation of the ending — re of the I, II, IV verb conjugations and — ĕre — of the III^rd verb conjugation.

NB: A verb in in the Imperative mood in the 2^nd person singular is formed by the separation of the ending -re from the infinitive of a verb of any conjugation.

For the expression of prohibition, a special form consisting of an imperative mood of an irregular verb noli (singular), nolite (plural) and the infinitive of the corresponding verb are usually used, literally "don’t do", for example, noli nocere — don’t do any harm!

Conjugation of the verb esse (to be)

This verb can be used:

• as an independent verb: In officinal est tincture Valerianae. There is a valerian tincture in a chemist’s shop. В аптеке имеется валериановая найстойка;
• as an auxiliary linking verb in a personalized compound predicate: Ephedra planta est. Ephedra is a plant. Эфедра — растение.
