The following is the text of Tentative programme of analytical chemistry including the course of instrumental methods of analysis for students of pharmaceutical universities (schools) recommended for the use in pharmaceutical universities (faculties) of Russia (Explanatory note is omitted). As a rule, the programme is subject to review once per five years.
TENTATIVE PROGRAMME ON ANALYTICAL CHEMISTRY INCLUDING THE COURSE OF INSTRUMENTAL METHODS
OF ANALYSIS FOR STUDENTS OF PHARMACEUTICAL UNIVERSITIES (FACULTIES)
Introduction
Analytical chemistry (analytics) and chemical analysis. Basic terms of analytical chemistry (analytics): method of analysis of substance, analytical procedure, qualitative chemical analysis, quantitative chemical analysis, elemental analysis, functional analysis, molecular analysis, phase analysis.
Principal divisions of analytical chemistry.
Use of analytical chemistry methods in pharmaceutical science. Pharmaceutical analysis. Compendial methods.
Analytical character of substances and analytical reactions. Types of analytical reactions and chemical agents. Sensitivity characteristics of analytical reactions (limit dilution, limit concentration, а minimum volume of maximally diluted solution, limit of detection, sensitivity index).
Sample preparation for analysis. An average sample. Average sampling of liquid, solid (homogeneous and inhomogeneous substance). Sample mass. Sample dilution (in water, water solutions of acids, in other solvents), sample treatment with saturated solutions of sodium bicarbonate, potassium carbonate or its salt fusion.
A brief historical sketch of analytical chemistry (analytics) development: qualitative chemical analysis, quantitative chemical analysis, combustion analysis, physical and physical-chemical (instrumental) methods of analysis (optical, chromatographic, electrochemical).
